The $50 Rule

In 2026 the general rule is: only consider grading cards worth at least $50 in raw condition. At PSA's $35 base fee plus $25 shipping, you need a significant grade premium just to break even.

PSA vs CGC vs BGS in 2026

PSA — Market leader with 67% share. Highest resale values and best liquidity. Best for modern Pokémon cards and vintage holos. Turnaround ~45 days at Regular tier.

CGC — Fastest growing with 25% market share. Cheaper and faster than PSA. CGC 10s sell for ~85% of PSA 10 prices. Best for budget-conscious collectors and UK/EU.

BGS — Offers detailed sub-grades. Best for cards targeting Black Label (perfect 10 across all categories). BGS 9.5s typically sell for ~83% of PSA 10 prices.

Grade Multipliers — What to Expect

• PSA 10 — typically 3-10x raw value for desirable cards
• PSA 9 — typically 1.5-3x raw value
• PSA 8 — typically 1.1-1.5x raw value
• PSA 7 or below — often worth less than raw after grading fees

When NOT to Grade
